The next several posts will be about the process of accessing emergency psychiatric care.
Before I start, I do want to mention a few caveats:
1. The availability of emergency psychiatric care can vary widely from region to region.
2. The laws pertaining to emergency psychiatric care, and the healthcare systems that develop in response to those laws, vary from state to state.
My posts on emergency psychiatric care will focus on California systems, and even more so on urban regions that are more likely to have multiple levels of psychiatric care available.
While these posts may not apply specifically to where you live, my goal is to give an idea of the thought processes behind providing psychiatric care in an emergency setting, rather than in a more standard outpatient setting.
