Over the years I've learned that one reason people don't want to go to a psychiatric clinic is that they don't know what to expect.
Most people have been to a family doctor, an ER, or visited someone admitted to the hospital. If they ever need to visit any of those care sites, they have an idea of what it will be like.
But those that haven't been to a psychiatric clinic may find it hard to find someone to walk you through what to expect. There are so many reasons, including cultural, that it may be hard to get some guidance.
So let's go through it together. I'll start with a standard clinic setup, and move on towards other common models.
