Perhaps because I'm a psychiatrist, I'm uniquely aware of how tough the stretch from now to New Year's can be.
For so many:
The budget is tight
There won't be time off
Trips home aren't possible
Found family and traditional families may not agree
Loneliness is mounting
For those with long-term mental health needs, these are challenges that are added to their already ongoing care needs.
Furthermore, there can be a lot of stigma over communicating that it's a tough time of year.
So first, please understand that you are not the only person feeling like this and that there is support, even through the holidays.
And second, here is a wave and a smile from a psychiatrist who is rooting for you. Overall, I like to keep these posts strictly educational, but it comes from a place of realizing people out there are usually searching for helpful information.
While not a strictly educational post, hopefully there is a sense of validation in knowing you are not alone in how you feel.
Holiday-related challenges are real, you are seen, and here's to things getting better soon.
