Sharpe, M.D., Ph.D.  Dr. Sharpe received her medical degree and Ph.D. in biochemistry from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, before completing her adult psychiatry residency at UCLA Resnick and her child psychiatry fellowship at The Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.  Dr. Sharpe is board certified in both adult and child psychiatry.  In addition to being the primary physician at Parkside Consulting, she coordinates additional providers as needed for consultation packages and any ancillary services the clinic provides.

The Toy Toolkit: Mild Distractions

I always try to keep a few toys around that people can play with while still trying to have a conversation.


Some people call them stimulation or sensory toys, but overall I find that most people appreciate something to do with their hands when they are trying to navigate a difficult conversation, even if they can get by without the extra sensory input.


Adults tend to appreciate them just as much as children actually. And since you can hear me giggle while trying to take the video, clearly I find them pretty awesome too!
